Villa Cimbrone
Historic gardens and the Terrace of Infinity overlooking the gulf, among the most famous views on the coast.
Live music among suspended gardens, terraces over the sea and the light of sunset — from the gardens of Villa Cimbrone to the finest villas along the coast.
Looking for a wedding violinist in Ravello or on the Amalfi Coast? I play live for ceremonies and receptions across the most beautiful villas and gardens of this stretch of coast -- from the Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone to the infinity pool at Belmond Hotel Caruso, from the cliffside terraces of Positano to the historic gardens of Amalfi.
Ravello has always been the town of music on the Amalfi Coast. Perched more than three hundred and fifty metres above the sea, it inspired composers and writers -- from Richard Wagner, who pictured here Klingsor's enchanted garden, to Edvard Grieg -- and every summer it turns the gardens of Villa Rufolo into the celebrated Ravello Festival, its stage suspended over the Gulf of Salerno. Playing the violin at a wedding here means stepping into a living musical tradition known the world over: guests arrive already attuned to listening, and every note feels made for that vertical landscape of terraces, lemon groves and open sky. Yet the magic of this coastline does not end in Ravello. From the fishing villages of Positano to the medieval cathedral square of Amalfi, from the cliffs of Furore to the harbour of Praiano, every corner of this coast carries its own light and its own atmosphere -- and I have played in all of them.
I have worked between Ravello and the wider Amalfi Coast for several years, and I know the real timing of each venue: the climb up to the belvedere of Villa Cimbrone, the open acoustics of the terraced gardens, the precise moment when the sun drops over the gulf and the light becomes the protagonist of the ceremony. That practical knowledge lets me plan entrances, pieces and transitions with the wedding planner without last-minute improvisation, tuning volume, position and repertoire to the specific space. The windswept terrace at Villa Eva does not call for the same choices as the intimate courtyard of Palazzo Pascal; the grand loggia of a Positano cliff hotel sets a different register from the cloister of a medieval church in Amalfi. Every setting has its own measure, and the violin respects it.
For the ceremony I build a bespoke repertoire that ranges from the classics -- Bach, Pachelbel, Vivaldi, Schubert -- to violin arrangements of pop songs and film scores, and on to the pieces the couple truly feel are their own. The bride's entrance, the exchange of vows and the recessional are the three moments around which I shape the emotional arc of the ceremony: every piece is chosen together in the preceding weeks, rehearsed and adapted, never left to chance. It is a work of listening before it is a work of performance.
After the rite, the violin accompanies the aperitif and the reception with an elegance that never intrudes on conversation: background music during drinks at sunset over the Tyrrhenian, solo moments at the key passages of the evening, and a fuller sound when the string-trio line-up is chosen. Along this coast, where the view is always the true protagonist, my presence stays discreet and refined -- it enhances the atmosphere without covering the panorama, and it carries the guests from the ceremony through to the first toast under the stars.
Many weddings on the Amalfi Coast are destination weddings, with couples and guests arriving from all over the world. That is why I pay close attention to the international dimension of the day: a repertoire recognisable to Italian and foreign guests alike, the ability to coordinate with English-speaking planners, photographers and officiants, and a sensitivity to different wedding traditions. Music becomes a common language that puts everyone at ease, from the first glance at the altar to the last dance on a terrace above the sea.
Logistics on this coast call for experience and advance planning: narrow roads and hairpin bends, transfers by stairs or panoramic lifts, and any permits required for live music in historic gardens and luxury hotels. I take care of every technical detail well ahead of time -- power supply, instrument placement, light amplification when an open setting requires it -- in dialogue with the venue and the planner. The aim is simple: on the wedding day the couple should think only of living their day, while the musical side has already been resolved down to the smallest detail.

The Terrace of Infinity, Villa Cimbrone -- where the sky meets the sea and music finds its measure.

Historic gardens and the Terrace of Infinity overlooking the gulf, among the most famous views on the coast.

A historic residence with an infinity pool suspended above the sea, among the most iconic settings for luxury weddings.

A villa with panoramic gardens opening onto the sea, much sought after for private, exclusive receptions in Ravello.

Historic charm and breathtaking views over the Amalfi Coast, an elegant setting for exclusive destination weddings.
Depending on the atmosphere and the space, I offer different line-ups: the solo violin, intimate and versatile, ideal for the most gathered ceremonies; the duo with guitar or piano, for a warm sound during the aperitif; the string trio, fuller and more enveloping, perfect for larger receptions in the panoramic villas of Ravello or the grand terraces of Positano. In every case the care remains the same: fine instruments, thorough rehearsals and a craftsman's attention to each transition from one moment of the celebration to the next.
If you are imagining your wedding in Ravello, Positano, Amalfi or anywhere along this coast, we can begin with a simple conversation: the venue you have chosen, the number of guests, the atmosphere you have in mind and the pieces you hold dear. From there we build together the soundtrack of your day, from the first note of the entrance to the last toast beneath the Amalfi Coast sky.
A site visit or detailed briefing with the couple and the wedding planner, the choice of pieces for the three key moments of the ceremony, and the definition of the line-up (solo violin, duo, string trio).
On the day I arrive early for set-up and sound levels, so the music accompanies the ceremony, aperitif and reception naturally, with no technical worries for the couple.
Donato made our ceremony in Ravello magical: professional, elegant and able to move every single guest.
An exceptional person, both as a professional and as a human being. His music made my wedding truly unique -- reaching out to him is more than worth it.
Donato made our special day fantastic. He played amazing music as I proposed to my fiancée. If you want to add a special touch to your day, I would recommend him without hesitation.
I wholeheartedly recommend Donato and his trio for your special moments: talented, warm and professional. They moved us and delighted us from start to finish.
Talented, professional and full of class. We chose Donato and his trio for our wedding and they won everyone over -- they understood exactly what we were looking for.
Yes. I agree placement and any permits for live music in the historic spaces with the venue and the planner, using light amplification when the open setting calls for it.
From the classics (Bach, Pachelbel, Vivaldi) to pop and film arrangements, through to the pieces chosen by the couple. We build the entrance, the vows and the recessional together.
Yes, many weddings in Ravello are destination weddings: I curate a repertoire recognisable to Italian and foreign guests and coordinate with international planners and suppliers.
From solo violin to fuller string line-ups -- violin & piano, string trio or quartet, elegant ensembles -- I shape the musical experience around the couple's style. For the livelier moments of the evening I can discreetly add options such as DJ & sax or a live band, always in keeping with a refined, carefully crafted sound.
